Accessible Literacy Learning 1.4

The Accessible Literacy Learning (ALL) software represents a significant advancement in reading programs designed specifically for non-verbal students. It emphasizes creating a literacy instruction framework that is not only accessible but also engaging for children with disabilities.

Developed by Drs. Janice Light and David McNaughton from Pennsylvania State University, the ALL Reading Program addresses the unique needs of individuals requiring Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Its efficacy in teaching fundamental reading skills to individuals facing complex communication and physical access challenges—including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and developmental apraxia—has been well-documented.

The ALL software effectively decomposes reading into essential component skills, providing direct instruction in each area. These skills encompass letter-sound correspondence, sound blending, phoneme segmentation, single word decoding, sight words, and shared reading. Progress is meticulously tracked and reassessed periodically to ensure retention of these vital skills.

One of the notable features of the ALL software is its capacity to accommodate an unlimited number of students, allowing them to navigate through the skill progression at their individualized pace. Educators can customize instructional modes and design lessons suitable for small groups or one-on-one settings, as well as assign independent lessons. Additionally, the ALL software is compatible with iOS for iPad (with the exception of iPad 1), ensuring it meets a broad range of accessibility requirements.
